These are exciting times in the scientific community.
The materialist view of matter and energy is dissolving so quickly
that only the uninformed or close-minded could ignore the trend.
At the same time, public interest in holistic health care and
spiritual living is soaring. These trends are intimately linked,
as they must be.
In the third issue of earthlight! we cited numerous
historical events as evidence that "the very fabric of space
is seething with dynamic, electric energy."
The same day that issue went to press, the Washington
Post printed this statement in the opening paragraph of its
Science section[1]:
Ten days earlier, the respected journal Science reported
that scientists at Los Alamos National Labs had succeeded in making
definite measurements of the Casimir force. This force was predicted
in 1948, and is a measure of zero-point energy, the power of empty
space[2,3].
Ten days earlier still, a U.S. patent was issued on a system
used for "converting high frequency zero-point electromagnetic
radiation energy to electrical energy."[4] This is only the
latest in a long series of developments in the New Energy field.
One of many promising technologies is known as "cold fusion".
Frequently ridiculed by mainstream institutions (at least in this
country) cold fusion was vindicated last September when the U.S.
Navy reported that anomalous energy production in these systems
is real[5,6].
The relevant question is no longer "if zero-point
energy exists," but rather "how can it be tapped?"
The earnest few who take up this challenge will lead us into the
new millennium.
Zero-point energy is the ultimate source of all creative
forces in nature. As we learn to tap it effectively, enough clean
and abundant energy will become available for everyone's needs.
Can our society deliver this abundance fairly? Within a few years,
I believe the answer will be yes.
Those who follow a spiritual path understand that knowledge
and morality are inseparably linked. The laws of nature extend
far beyond the material world. They include the emotional, mental,
and spiritual realms as well. Nature's deepest secrets are impenetrable
by those with only material interests. Like the fabled sword set
in stone, nature's finer forces await those with strength and
purity of character.
To be sure, technical progress is possible without spiritual
intent. Just look around to see the results. We live in a society
threatened by our own weapons, running on inefficient machines
that belch pollution, and financed by the struggling majority
who are routinely misled and exploited by others.
Fortunately, the old structures are tumbling quickly. There
is a general consciousness-raising in progress throughout society.
Books on spiritual themes consistently rank on best-seller lists.
Men and women, abandoned by industry, are re-defining the workplace
into smaller, more efficient enterprises. Individuals are taking
responsibility for their own well-being, and questioning those
who claim authority. We are coming to realize that the only real
authority lies within. The choices we make can be tested with
divine wisdom in our own hearts.
It is no coincidence that landmark scientific discoveries
are taking place at this time. Like the renaissance of the 14th
century, our technology is rising in concert with our consciousness.
From a turbulent adolescence, Western society is reaching maturity.
We have learned much from Eastern traditions where spiritual themes
have been preserved for thousands of years. We accept the advances
of the industrial age, and resolve to use them wisely and with
restraint. We are re-building health care systems to benefit people,
not corporations. We seek holistic solutions to our problems,
and approach nature with a spirit of cooperation, rather than
with an attitude of indifference.
We are witnessing nothing less than the evolution of humanity,
in better balance with nature. The tools and technologies we need
for a heathier, cleaner tomorrow are emerging. The tools will
be ready when the people are ready. This is the birth of the Golden
Age, and we can assist by simply listening to our hearts.
