Previously in this series we have explored some of the
historical and mystical aspects of quantum theory. We drew two
profound conclusions from decades of research into sub-atomic
physics:
1. "Matter and Energy are made from the same, non-physical stuff. And the stuff is called consciousness."
Some people find this statement very uncomfortable. And with good
reason, for it undermines the doctrine of materialism which has
dominated western scientific thought for over 300 years. Neils
Bohr, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1922, remarked,
"Anyone who is not shocked by quantum theory has not understood
it."
2. "The finest structure of matter, indeed the very fabric of space, is seething with dynamic, electric energy."
This energy is called zero-point vacuum energy, because it exists
everywhere, even in a vacuum, even at the lowest possible temperature
of absolute zero. From a spiritual perspective, it is the motive
power wielded by the conscious mind of nature. Many researchers
believe this motive power can also be utilized by carefully designed
machines.
Using our consciousness to tap into the field of infinite energy,
we stand at the threshold of an energy abundant society.
"Free Energy" is a term used to describe systems
that deliver more energy than they consume. Traditional scientists
and engineers view this idea with great skepticism. They quickly
point out that (a) energy is always conserved, and (b) any real-world
machine includes unavoidable losses. Therefore, the energy output
must always be less than energy input. Period. This strongly held
belief has been codified as the Second Law of Thermodynamics.
In fact, none of the devices we are about to mention violate this
law. Rather than creating "free" energy, they simply
collect background energy from the environment and convert it
into useable form. By the same mechanism, a residential heat pump
delivers two to four times as much energy as it consumes. The
electricity it consumes is used to move heat, not to create heat.
Most sources credit Nikola Tesla as founder of the free energy
movement. Tesla was a brilliant inventor who designed the world's
first hydroelectric power plant at Niagara Falls, the first municipal
electric lighting system in Buffalo, NY, and hundreds of other
important devices.
Tesla was an intuitive scientist. He sensed the potential of a
natural, background energy source over 100 years ago. In 1891
he wrote "Ere many generations pass, our machinery will be
driven by a power obtainable at any point in the universe."
Evidence suggests that inventors have been successfully tapping
zero-point energy since 1912, long before its "discovery"
in 1948:
On May 1, 1912, the Governor of Arizona granted Roy J.
Meyers 30 days leave from the State Penitentiary in Florence so
that he could apply for a patent on his electrical "absorber."
Without any moving parts, this device extracted usable electricity
from the atmosphere. It seems that Meyers made his discovery while
working at the prison electrical plant.
Harry Perrigo, a graduate of MIT, demonstrated a space
energy device before the U.S. Congress on December 15, 1917. In
1922, his perfected device powered a bank of fourty-five 100 watt
light bulbs without flickering, according to witnesses.
On July 13, 1931, Henry Moray filed US patent application
#550,611 for a device he had been working on since 1909. Witnesses
claimed his device could power over 10,000 watts of electric lamps.
The patent application was rejected because, according to accepted
scientific theory, it couldn't possibly work.
In 1948 the ability to extract power from a vacuum was
proven mathematically by H.B.G Casmir, a Dutch physicist and friend
of Neils Bohr. This event legitimized the quest for free energy,
and although the field was overlooked by most mainstream research
organizations, work has continued at private labs all over the
world.
The really exciting developments have occurred in the last 20
years. Several patents have now been issued, and dozens of promising
projects are underway. The list of important contributors is long,
but a good overview may be obtained from the references listed
below.
It may seem incredible, but the Golden Age of energy abundance
is close at hand. On January 29, 1996, the Wall Street Journal
described a "cold fusion" device that generated over
450 watts of heat, yet consumed only 1.5 watts of electrical power.
Man's technological abilities are clearly poised to leap ahead.
We must develop the spiritual and moral qualities to use these
gifts wisely.
