John & Jan's Excellent Adventure

Interview by Joanne Brandt, Editor

John Randolph Price is an internationally known lecturer and best-selling author of The Abundance Book, The Angels Within Us, and Empowerment, books that combine the ageless wisdom of East and West. His wife Jan just published The Other Side of Death, about her near-death experience. Together they teach annual Mystery Schools in lush earthly locations. This husband-and-wife team are the inspiration for World Healing Day, where millions of people around the world join in a simultaneous global mind link.

Earthlight: At one time you were both quite successful in business. How did you become teachers of metaphysics?

John Randolph Price: Well, let me begin at the beginning. I was with an advertising and public relations agency in Chicago back in the 1960's and one of my clients gave me The Success System That Never Fails. I thought it was a book on how to sell life insurance, and I put it in my bookcase and didn't read it.

About six months later it fell out. When I looked down, it was open to a page that said, "What the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve." That resonated, so I picked up the book and began to leaf through it. There were several mentions of the teaching of Ancient Wisdom and current metaphysics. The next day Jan went to the library and got all the books she could find from the bibliography and brought them home.

Thus we began our search.

As we read this material we wondered if what was being taught back in those ancient Mystery Schools was still being observed today. We tracked the knowledge all through the secret societies, up to the modern times, with the Transcendental Movement and Ralph Waldo Emerson, and into the present time, with the New Thought Movement. We realized that this was a golden thread that extended from 5,000 years ago in ancient Egypt all the way to the present.

That's when we really got excited. By then we had discovered there were things out there called New Thought Churches, where they were teaching this knowledge. We were saying: If this has gone on for so long, and it's being taught now, has anyone out there "got it"?

We began to do the research which led to our first book, The Super Beings. I contacted a number of people in the New Thought movement and asked if there were people who had their acts completely together, where they had complete financial abundance, perfect relationships, ideal health, and everything in life to the ultimate.

We found one, and then another one, and then another one. Once we finished that book, we were guided to stop all commercial operations and step out into this new world of research and communications.

That's when the Quartus Foundation was formed, to continue the research into the ancient wisdom.

EL: I was surprised how old some of the ideas are. Like creative visualization. I thought perhaps Shakti Gawain invented that. (Everyone laughs.)

JRP: It's amazing, when you read in the Manley P. Hall books where he researched very carefully the old Mystery Schools, they were using the techniques that today we consider modern metaphysics. The use of affirmations, visualization, discipline in your work, journaling, meditation.

It all comes around in cycles, and what we're having now is that continuity. We get letters from all over the world and people are being lifted up into a higher frequency of consciousness. The "movement" is like a tidal wave.

EL: So the spiritual and material worlds are moving closer together?

JRP: When Jan went across to the other side, she was told very explicitly and in great detail that there is no difference between the material and the spiritual. The Ancient Wisdom Teachings tell us that materialism is simply spiritual life in the lower frequency. Spiritual life is material life in the higher frequency, where it becomes invisible. And she was told that this life we call material is no less spiritual than what we call heaven.

Jan Price: We have to realize is that it's all the same stuff. We're just experiencing it in a different energy. Everything that is expressed is of that energy of All-That-Is. Therefore, on every level, on every plane of existence, Spirit is expressing as whatever form or experience. This particular plane of existence, this dense physical world that we're in, is an adventure. What is that quote that everyone's being credited with?

EL: "We're spiritual beings having a human experience."

JP: That's right. And I read the other day that that came from de Chardin (Everyone laughs.) But it is truly that. My message was to savor fully the physical experience. It is as sacred as any other experience. And when we truly move into a greater manifestation of our spirituality, we experience the fact that we're not a body. We're a being that inhabits a physical body, just as people who go out in space have to have a space suit. Spirit is expressing right here on this plane in physical form, having a joyous adventure.

JRP: You know, the Ancient Wisdom Teachings talked about money as an expression of the love of divinity. When you look at it that way, it takes away its materialistic connotations. It becomes simply an expression, a manifestation, to provide for the needs we have while living in physical form.

To me materialism has been taken away by the physicists who say there is no such thing as matter -- all of this is energy -- we know that. Two, a materialist is a very greedy individual, who has no thought of anyone but him or herself. They are manipulating energy; they are manipulating people. Living the spiritual life means you are relying upon that spirit of God-within-you to provide, to manifest, to express through you all that is needed on the journey through life.

EL: You often say, "My consciousness of God as my supply is my supply." But seekers often think everything is spirit, and miss the material boat.

JRP: We have to live in both worlds. I am sitting here on a stool, in a physical body, but I know I am not that body. I know I am a Light Being from another dimension. I am here on this plane for a period of time in order to experience this and enjoy the adventure of it. I know that my essence, that true nature of my being, is the Absolute Perfection of everything in this world. It is the provider and the provision of everything I could possibly have.

But my work is to be aware of this, to understand it, to know it, and to follow the guidance. We have to position ourselves in this world in order to be at the right place at the right time for the appropriate outpouring from whatever channel Spirit chooses.

If we just meditate all the time and wait for something to happen, we're gonna be covered in cobwebs.

JP: Whatever our consciousness is, that's what's going to outpicture. Those who don't tap into the true meaning of spirituality are going to find out very quickly what their consciousness is, by what is outpictured.

The second part of Empowerment is called "The Manifestation Process". If you'll note, the very first statement in that is "attunement" because if we're not in tune with that spiritual nature, then all the other things are not going to work.

JRP: Step 1 in that 10-Step process is getting in tune with that higher frequency, and once you are in that vibration, you choose, and then you accept, and that sense of "have" registers, and then you move through the other steps right through to manifestation.

EL: You have manifested World Healing Day. How did this inspiration come to you?

JRP: It was September of 1983. We were flying back from leading a workshop in Birmingham, Alabama. I was doing a meditation on the plane and I heard the words, "It is time for world service." Now it wasn't an audible voice; it was a little impression. I thought, what in the world does that mean?

The next morning I went into meditation again and asked for guidance. When I went to the typewriter, the first chapter of The Planetary Commission book came forth. The guidance said that in 1987 there would be a critical mass in this world of darkness. We needed to get as many people together as possible at one particular time for a simultaneous global mind link. The date of December 31, 1986 was given to us. We choose 12:00 noon Greenwich time, because we knew that that would encompass all time zones in the world in one 24-hour period. (Ed. note: 6:00 a.m. EST)

On January 1, 1984 we announced the idea of a global mind link -- World Healing Day.

From then until fall of '86 we criss-crossed the country. It was a grass-roots movement. We asked for no contributions. All we asked was that people tell people, to tell people, to tell people. And they did.

Over 500 major organizations got behind it. The Human Unity Institute, CA, took over the scorekeeping. In September of '86 we had 18 African nations signed up. The President of Sri Lanka went on television weekly to announce World Healing Day. A woman from Japan's World Peace Society personally came over bringing stacks and stacks of names.

The media, of course, did not know anything about this. Then, all of a sudden, right after Christmas, the papers were calling every moment.

JP: What set it off was a full page ad in the New York Times for a gathering at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. The press was calling and they were saying, "How did you pull this off? How come we didn't know about it? How did you do it without us?"

JRP: There were over 500 million participants from 77 countries that first year. One year later, the President of the Stockholm Peace Institute released a report saying that in 1987 there was a break in the number of hostilities throughout the world. That showed us that it was worthwhile.

We don't have the numbers for the second year; we stopped counting, but someone said there had to be close to a billion people, or 1/5 of the planet coming together. The L.A. Times said it was the largest participatory event in history.

EL: You sound justifiably pleased with the success of World Healing Day. JP: We're in awe of it. It had its own energy and its out there doing its thing.

JRP: We also know that there's so much more we can do. When Jan was on the other side, she was shown the world in darkness, but with the light coming through, the light growing, which meant to her that this world is spiraling toward victory. We are moving into the higher vibrations.

We feel that after the turn of the century the acceleration is going to be even greater. We see the world moving into the light, and we see people all over the world coming together, where religion is not divisive, where there is plenty, where people understand the meaning of supply and the principles involved. When enough people understand, its going to tilt, and there's going to be abundance for all.

JP: That reminds me of someone saying to John, "I'm not interested in working for prosperity. I have everything I want." John said to him, "What about the rest of the world? Would you work for the prosperity of the rest of the world?" Let's do that. Let's open the doors for everyone.

This is what World Healing Day is. Many people call it a peace event, and certainly it is. Because when we have peace within, we have peace without. But it's to heal everything, to heal all the people in the world, whatever their malady may be.
